Why this works
Built on principles from Speech-Language Pathology
Every exercise targets the specific sounds and patterns that Chinese (Mandarin) speakers find hardest. No wasted time on sounds you already have.
You learn exactly where to place your tongue, lips, and jaw — not "listen and repeat" guesswork. Real phonetic instruction.
Capped at 10 participants so every person gets real practice time and feedback — not a passive lecture.
8-Week Curriculum
What you'll work on each week
- 1
Foundation: Two Sound Systems and Vowel Awareness
Understand the key differences between Chinese and English phonology. Map out the sounds you already have and the ones you need to build.
- 2
English Vowel Sounds
Explore the full English vowel system, including vowels that have no direct equivalent in Chinese. Build muscle memory for each distinct sound.
- 3
The TH Sounds
Master the voiced /ð/ and voiceless /θ/ — two sounds that do not exist in Chinese. Practice placement, airflow, and real-word integration.
- 4
R and L Distinction
Build the English /r/ sound from scratch and clearly separate it from /l/. Learn exactly where to place your tongue for each sound.
- 5
Final Consonant Clarity
English words end in sounds that Chinese words usually do not. Practice releasing final consonants and closing syllables clearly and naturally.
- 6
Word Stress and Syllable Emphasis
Learn how English stresses certain syllables within words and why placing stress in the wrong place changes meaning or causes confusion.
- 7
Sentence Rhythm: From Tonal to Stress-Timed
English is a stress-timed language which is very different from the tonal rhythm of Chinese. Practice the natural rise-and-fall pattern of English sentences.
- 8
Connected Speech and Real-World Practice
Put it all together. Practice linking, reduction, and natural flow in conversations, presentations, and everyday professional situations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about the workshop
How do I know which workshop is right for me?
Choose the workshop based on your native language. If you grew up speaking Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese), join the Chinese speakers workshop. The same applies for Hindi/Urdu, Spanish, or Arabic. Schedule a free consultation if you're not sure which group fits best.
I've had pronunciation classes — how is this different?
These classes are taught by an experienced English instructor and trained accent coach currently completing a Master's degree, with a professional foundation in speech therapy. That combination — classroom expertise, phonetic knowledge, and therapeutic understanding — is rare. It means you get instruction that is both academically sound and practically effective.
What if I speak multiple languages?
Select the workshop for the language you spoke first or the one you're most comfortable with. Your first language typically has the strongest influence on your English pronunciation patterns.
Do I need a certain English level to join?
You should have at least an intermediate level of English (B1-B2 or CLB 5). If you can hold basic conversations in English but struggle with pronunciation and being understood, these workshops are perfect for you.
What if I miss a session?
All sessions are recorded and shared with participants, so you can review what you missed. However, live attendance is strongly encouraged for the interactive practice and real-time feedback.
Can I switch to 1-on-1 coaching later?
Absolutely! Many students start with group workshops and later add or switch to 1-on-1 coaching for more personalized attention. You can discuss this option during your free consultation or anytime during your workshop participation.
Do you use the "shadow method"?
No. Accent coaching that relies only on "listen and repeat" is limited by what it can't explain. True pronunciation instruction means understanding how sounds are formed — the placement of the tongue, the shape of the lips, the role of breath and jaw position. With a background in speech therapy and phonetics, these classes go far beyond imitation. You'll learn exactly what your mouth needs to do, and why.
